Merci, Mercy - 'Fall Apart'
Things fall apart the centre cannot hold; Sydney based pop monster Merci, Mercy is loosed upon the world... Ok, ok forgive the grandiloquence, maybe allusions to apocalyptic Yeatsian verse are a bit OTT for a "pop-music" blog, but honestly this new single from Merci, Mercy is something else. Not lacking in conviction, and full of passionate intensity the 19 year old pop prodigy is once again proving herself without equal in her ability to deliver dramatic, faultlessly lyrical and genuinely unique pop music.
'Fall Apart' is only the second release to surface from, the promising Australian artist whose disarmingly immediate pop tunes are loaded with the spellbinding insight of youthful disarray. Following fast on the heels of her jaw dropping debut outing "Fucked Myself Up" which saw Merci, Mercy find support from the likes of triple j, Spotify AU and The Line of Best Fit (to name a few), 'Fall Apart' is in equal parts boisterous pop romp and candid reflection on self-doubt and cynicism.
It is a tune of beguiling sophistication, making use of a punctuated lyrical flow, underpinned by staccato guitars and synths to invest the track with a satisfyingly ostentatious quality. These bold chorus' contrast with softer jazzy acoustic interludes, all of which are exquisitely produced making 'Fall Apart' a perfect pop anthem.
